The exhibition showcasing the restored works will be held at the Old Fire Station Gallery in Terralong St, Kiama from Friday 2 September through to the following Tuesday from 10am to 4pm.

In 2013 we held a highly successful festival in Gerringong, on the New South Wales South Coast, to commemorate Lloyd Rees 25 years after his death, and since that time there have been a number of on-going activities within the area. For example, funds from the festival were donated to the local primary school for special art classes, and the Gerringong Bowling Club has a range of Lloyd Rees prints on permanent display.

Our festival was highly supported by Lloyd’s family, Alan and Jan Rees, and we thank them very much for their generosity.

Not so long ago, thanks to Alan, another wonderful discovery was made.

In 1962 Lloyd was approached by the High School in the neighbouring town of Kiama about a project to paint representative pictures of the area. Lloyd, who taught drawing to architectural students at Sydney University, arranged for a number of his students to visit Kiama and Gerringong, and as a result the six paintings shown below, by now eminent architects, were donated to the high school.

These were recently discovered in storage at the High School (a little worse for wear after 50 plus years) and the Principal is very supportive of these works being cleaned and re-framed and hung in a public place. Each of the works are approximately 2 metres by 1.5 metres, and are quite stunning.

We are delighted that Kiama Library will display the paintings when they are restored for local residents and visitors to enjoy, before they are returned to the school library.

So, we now are now appealing for funds to bring these wonderful legacy works back to life for locals and visitors alike to enjoy.

Our aim is to raise $6,000

If you would like to donate, you can do so by using the buttons on the right hand side of this page or by contacting our project team through lloydreesfestival2013@gmail.com (a receipt will be emailed to you).

We will keep you up to date with how our fundraising totals, and pictures showing how our project is progressing.
